The printing press might seem simple from today's vantage point, but it was a disruptive media technology that challenged the existing power structure and transformed Europe. From sparking the Protestant Reformation to helping spread the Age of Enlightenment, the printing press was the first mass media technology, and like media revolutions to come, would redistribute ideas and power and remake society in the process.
